Elks 157 Veteran’S Breakfast Report

The annual Veteran’s Breakfast was held at the Lodge Saturday, November 9, 2019. Club Manager Sue Buroker and her crew of volunteers served a delicious buffet breakfast which was enjoyed by all. There were 96 in attendance, including veterans and families, Elks, helpers and Blue Star Mothers. The Kenton High School JROTC under the direction of MSG David Clifford presented the flag of our country and the various service flags. The National Anthem was sung and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all. The Elks mixed chorus under the direction of Sue Buroker provided a brief program of service songs featuring soloist Jerry Haudenschield. ER Derek Kaufman provided remarks and all veterans introduced themselves.

After the conclusion of the breakfast, 18 veterans and others traveled to Columbus to the Veterans Memorial Museum. It was a memorable experience for all. Afterward, the group enjoyed an evening meal at Der Dutchman before returning to Kenton.

Thanks to all who made the day a success, including Vic and Grace Dodds for the table decorations and the meat, ER Derek Kaufman, Sue Buroker and volunteers Vicki Miller, Anda Tudor, Jodene McKinley Scott, Ryan Yoakum, Meghan Yoakum, Julie Crowe (who also got us the Elks National Foundation grant which made it all possible), Bob and Adeline Terry, Steve Gossard and the Veterans Service Office for the use of the van, Abe Oates for driving the veterans’ ban, D. Jack Buroker, Roger Crowe, Dee Park, the Elks Mixed Chorus, MSG Clifford and the JROTC, Judy Faulkner, John Hines and Kevin McPherson. Most of all, thanks to the veterans who gave so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we have. If I omitted anyone, I apologize. Please let me know.
